Dog attacks on the rise

dog attacks

How many times have you experienced dog attacks on your daily walks?

Last year, Company of Animals helped to distribute a survey to over 700 dog owners to assess their experiences with other aggressive canines. Unfortunately, the study revealed a sad reality that owners and authorities should be talking about and tackling.

Recently published by the CFBA 2020/2021 (Canine and Feline Behaviour Association UK), the survey found that “dog on dog attacks are clearly on the rise”. Dr David D Sands reported that 54% of participant’s dogs had either been attacked or challenged by other dogs with 27% of victims stating that the encounter(s) had a long-term effect on their daily dog walks.

Dog ownership should bring joy and companionship to us all and evidently more needs to be done to combat this increasing problem. There are many steps one can take to ensure pet safety and prevent such traumatizing encounters with muzzles being one of the first. We believe it’s high time we remove the stigma associated with muzzles as innovation in product design means freedom and comfort are not compromised. As with our Baskerville™ models, basket muzzles allow dogs to pant, drink and play. Muzzle training is essential for those “just in case” scenarios and for those pets who, for whatever reason, just don’t appreciate close contact with other canines. With more extreme cases of aggressive dogs (5% of participants in this survey) ,interruptive methods such as Pet Corrector™ may be necessary to avoid our pets sustaining injury or emotional trauma. One thing is for sure, our pet’s safety and happiness is paramount, and we have a responsibility to secure it.

If you’ve got an aggressive dog and frequently experience dog attacks, we highly recommend you invest in a basket style dog muzzle like our Baskerville Ultra, and start muzzle training as soon as possible.
